Connecting Email via IMAP/SMTP
If you use a non-Gmail email provider or a custom domain, you can connect your support inbox to Whisper using standard IMAP and SMTP credentials.
Step-by-Step Instructions#
Open Integrations settings
Navigate to Settings > Integrations in the Whisper sidebar.
Select Email
Click Connect integration and select Email.
Choose IMAP/SMTP
Choose the Email • IMAP/SMTP option.
Fill in your credentials
Fill in the required credentials:
- Email address: The support email address (e.g., [email protected]).
- Sender name: The name displayed to customers.
- IMAP Server & Port: Your provider's incoming mail server details.
- SMTP Server & Port: Your provider's outgoing mail server details.
- Password: Your email password or an app-specific password if required by your provider.
Test the connection
Click Test connection to verify that Whisper can successfully connect to both incoming and outgoing servers.
Save the integration
Once the test is successful, click to save the integration.

Sender Name Customization#
You can use the {operatorName} placeholder in your sender name to personalize outgoing emails.
For example, entering {operatorName} from Your Company will dynamically insert the name of the operator handling the conversation.
Troubleshooting#
- Connection failed: Verify that your IMAP/SMTP server addresses, ports, and password are correct.
- Two-Factor Authentication: If your email provider uses 2FA, you may need to generate an "app password" specifically for Whisper.
